Volunteer FAQs

Why choose us?

Challenge has years of experience in organising volunteer trips. We will match you with a football volunteering experience that suits your expectations of what you want to get out of your trip. We offer a safe- well organised service that ensures you have the time of your life on your trip. We have also kept the cost to a minimum and so that everyone can afford to volunteer. We offer an ethical alternative to football volunteering companies that are making profit off football volunteers.

Why do I need to be a member of Challenge to get access to volunteer trip?

The years membership fee covers our administration costs for facilitating your trip. Your donation will contribute to a safe, organised, stress free volunteering experience. These financial resources are vital to run our charity. 100% of our running costs are covered by the membership fee without this we could not run our charity.

Why do I have to pay for my transport, accommodation and food (on some volunteer trips)

The charitable football academies that you volunteer with do not have the funds to pay for your costs.

Why do volunteer have to have a Skype call?

At Challenge we like to endure all volunteers are fully prepared and matched to projects to suit your needs. We are usually based at one of our project sites and Skype is the easiest way to be able to support our volunteers from around the world.

I have never booked over the internet before is my money safe?

Challenge uses the internet for transactions to cut down on administration costs meaning more money can go to help the projects. It is the easiest way for people from around the world to donate to volunteer. We use BTmydonate and your money and card details are protected. It also helps us cut down on our environmental impact on the planet. We contact all volunteers once payment has been made giving a receipt of payment.

Who volunteers at the football academies?

We have had volunteers from all around the world and vary in age. We accept all ages from 18 and above in groups or individually.

Why do you not have a permanent office?

We choose not to have an office in the United Kingdom because we do not see this as productive to how our organisation runs. The money we would use in running an office would take funds away from our projects; so we offer support over the internet or by phone. We have volunteers from all over the world and we feel the internet is the best way to deal with these volunteers. The team we have is small and we need all our members running the operation and not stuck in an office. At times everyone is needed to run operations in the field. All queries will be dealt with by one of our team and we will always only be a Skype call or email away if you need any assistance.

What is the in-country support?

The in-country support will usually be the director of the football academy who will be overseeing your stay at other times it may be another member of their charity team. We have an extensive network of people in-country who look after the volunteers and provide you with a safe volunteering experience. There will always be someone looking out for you at all times during your stay.

Where do I find out about vaccinations, money, visa's, what to bring etc?

Once we have acceptance of your application and you’re donation has been cleared you will be emailed the Volunteer Handbook which will have all the necessary information you will require for your stay. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further queries.

Can I volunteer with friends or in a group?

If you are volunteering with friends or a group please put the names of the friends or group name, with a list of all members in the additional notes box on your application. We will do our best to make sure you are all put in the same accommodation.

How does the application procedure work?

We look at your application and if we deem you a suitable applicant we accept you as a volunteer. You will then need to pay a deposit of £175 years membership donation. We will then inform you of the opportunities available for you to volunteer or go on a tour. When we have decided on trip best for yourself we will then plan the trip with you to make sure you are prepared when you land in-country for your Volunteer Trip or Tour.
